LUCKY Barlby High School students can look forward to a new cultivation corner thanks to a green-fingered governor.
David McSherry, is aiming to recruit pupils to tidy a neglected plot of the school field, creating a self-sufficient vegetable garden.

The landscape gardener is also appealing to district businesses, residents and allotment holders for donations of a shed and tools to ensure the project grows.

David said: "This project is being driven by teaching assistant Janet Smales, and with my help we hope to tidy two green areas where students can grow their own vegetables.

"However, we need the community to donate a garden shed and tools for the purpose. It doesn't matter what condition the shed is in – I can arrange to pick it up and spruce it up.

"It also doesn't matter what condition tools are in. I can get them repaired and clean them so students can use them.

"If this takes off, it would give some students a good grounding in horticulture and agriculture."

David students would decide what crops to plant.

Anyone interested in donating materials for the Barlby High School gardening project can contact David on 01757 630283.
