STAFF at Cliffe-based charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People raised a glass on Friday to toast the volunteers they will be leaving behind when the centre relocates to Bielby.
More than 75 supporters enjoyed champagne, soft drinks and nibbles at the farewell get-together, held at the Beatrice Wright Training Centre in the village.

A model of the new facilities was on display during the evening, and centre manager Angela Platten gave a talk to the assembled guests about the charity's future plans.

She said: "It was a very successful evening. In the end, it went on quite a while and everyone seemed to have a good time.

"People were asking questions about the new facilities, and I spoke to everyone about why we need to move and how exciting it will be to go to the new centre, although we will miss all our wonderful volunteers."

Hearing Dogs, which has had a base in Cliffe for the past 14 years, will move to Bielby on September 8. The larger, purpose-built facilities will enable the charity to train more dogs to work with deaf people.

Volunteer bed and breakfast socialisers and weekend walkers are desperately needed to support the charity. Call 01757 638666 for further information.
