CLAMPING down on speeding motorists and combating anti-social behaviour are just two of the issues being tackled by crime-fighters after the launch of a new scheme.
The Community Engagement Forum – made up of police, fire chiefs and councillors – held its first meeting in the Tadcaster area last month, and already concerns raised are being addressed.

Chairman of the group Coun Chris Metcalfe said: "We've alre
ady agreed an action plan to tackle a number of issues raised and we'll continue to investigate how we can address others.

"If we know what matters to people, their families, friends and neighbours, we can act together to solve any problems or address any concerns.

"This is a way for all of the organisations involved to become more responsive to the needs of the communities we serve within the Selby district."

A total of 26 items were raised across the area, which covers villages including Ryther, Ulleskelf, Biggin, Towton and Saxton.
Issues included yobbish behaviour, problems with HGVs, planning enforcement, speeding traffic and grass cutting.

Fire-fighters are now monitoring speed on certain roads, police are looking at reducing anti-social behaviour, while parish councils are looking to provide more youth facilities.

Feedback on all of the comments received at the first meeting will be given on December 8 at the Riley Smith Hall in Tadcaster. Doors open at 6.15pm for a 7pm start.

If successful, the pilot scheme will be rolled out to cover all parts of Selby district
