THE FATHER of a teenager tragically killed in a car crash on Christmas Day 2005 will use his image to help boost the impact of a national road safety campaign.
Keith Houliston, of Thorpe Willoughby, has agreed to the photograph of his son Neil – who died at the wheel of his car aged 17 – to be used to highlight the importance of wearing a seatbelt while driving.

At the inquest into the death of Mr Housliston's son, the family heard Neil would have only suffered whiplash injuries if he had been wearing a seatbelt at the time of his accident.

Neil's picture will be used on 130,000 posters and leaflets in the Calderdale area at the start of National Road Safety Week to encourage people to wear seatbelts to reduce death and injury on the roads.

Mr Houliston (pictured) said he was keen to prevent other people suffering the same fate.

He added: "I'm more than happy to back this campaign. If it encourages people to wear seatbelts and it helps to save lives, it will be worthwhile."

Mr Houliston has backed other road safety campaigns in the past, including helping with a safety DVD alerting young drivers to serious hazards on the road.

He has also won an award for his tireless campaigning in the wake of his son's untimely death.
