AMBITIOUS blueprints to breathe new life into the area's ailing economy will this week be unveiled.
Tomorrow's job-creation regeneration package will reveal a £20 million renewable energy park earmarked for a shut Selby factory site.
The high-tech enterprise promises to transform the eight-acre former Tate and Lyle citric acid plant (left) that closed last year, with 100 staff axed.
The loss of 450 jobs in recent months at key town companies Rosebys, Clariant, Greencore and Rigid Paper, as well as Sherburn-based Hero food firm, sent the district's commercial sector into meltdown.
Whites Renewable Energy now plans 40 vacancies to generate enough clean renewable electricity to power 10,800 homes for a year.
MP and town councillors have welcomed the initiative, which will go before other interested parties at Friday morning's briefing.
John Grogan said: "I'm delighted with this news. It's important for Selby that, in the next 12 months, a variety of projects including this, renaissance and new hospital bring employment and fresh hope."
White managing director David Balderson said: "The meeting on Friday and other meetings will be a great chance for us to outline our plans for Selby Renewable Energy Park.
"This is a very exciting opportunity for Selby, and we're looking forward to meeting with the local community."
