LANDOWNERS, developers and the wider community are being asked to help identify potential sites for new housing.
Under government rules, each local authority must develop a Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment. This document will identify potential sites for future homes, although it doesn’t necessarily mean properties will automatically be built on t
hese sites.
During this initial stage in the document’s preparation, Selby District Council is asking landowners and developers to identify potential housing opportunities on sites at least 0.4 hectares in size. Although there may also be smaller suitable sites, there are currently no plans to include these in this year’s assessment.
SDC planning committee chairman Coun John Mackman (right) said: “We’re not pre-judging future planning applications for housing developments; any potential site would obviously have to go through the proper planning process in due course.
“But to ensure the land database we have is accurate and up to date, we’re asking for support from local landowners, developers and the wider community to help us identify possible sites.”
Full details about the process and site proposal forms are available from the Access Selby town centre office, as well as council offices in Sherburn and Tadcaster.
Information is also available at North Yorkshire County Council libraries in Selby, Barlby, Sherburn and Tadcaster and with mobile services. Town and parish councils have also been asked to contribute.
Details are also available on-line at www.selby.gov.uk, with a deadline for inclusion in this year’s assessment of 5pm on September 12.
