A SELBY distribution centre has axed 16 jobs in the wake of a slowing economy.
The workers at Rosebys national distribution centre warehouse, based at The Potter Group in Barlby Road, are due to finish their last shift tomorrow.
One member of staff, who didn’t want to be named, said: “Jobs are going and it’s due to the credit crunch. Now 16 people have been left without a job and many more will follow.”
The Yorkshire-based firm was established in 1922, and in the past two decades, has acquired several other soft furnishings companies, including Bensons, Fabric Warehouse and Fads, growing its national portfolio to more than 300 stores nationwide.
The Selby centre is the hub of Roseby’s distribution operations, with 180 employees working in 310,000 sq ft of dedicated warehouse space.
Rosebys confirmed the job losses but declined to comment further.
