CHARITY work led to a happy ending for a Selby couple who got engaged after they met while volunteering in the town's SCOPE shop.
Paul Heffernan and Jean Blundell fell in love after they both started work in the Gowthorpe store four months ago.

The couple bonded over a shared love of animals and, after a whirlwind romance, Paul proposed to Jean in the shop last Wednesday.

Assistant manager Carol Crossland said: "All the staff were dressed up in Hallowe'en costumes on that day!

"Jean was the bride of Dracula and Paul came in all dressed up in a suit and tie and proposed. She of course said 'yes'!"

Carol continued: "They both love animals. Paul keeps birds and Jean has rabbits and guinea pigs so it blossomed from there."

The couple said they plan to save some money before setting a date for the wedding.
