The shine of getting this far was somewhat dimmed for Hirst Courtney when they suffered a heavy defeat in the final of the Scothern Construction Cup at Heworth.
Opponents Westow amassed 258 for 8 before knocking Hirst over for a mere 87 to win by 171 runs.
"We were well outplayed," said Hirst scribe Claire Howsam who went on to wax lyrical over 14-year-old Westow player Matty Turnbull's superb bowling and fielding, even taking a brilliant catch running backwards.
"We thought it was going for a six," she said. "It's one you don't often see even in test cricket."
And York Vale League secretary Shane Hargrave said it was one of the best catches he had ever seen. "He was just within the long-on boundary and had his back to the wicket as he raced to take it with consummate ease."
