A Selby College football student's World Cup bid has finally come unstuck, but not before her team reached the semi-finals.
Representing the England Women's U17 squad, Naomi Chadwick has so far started in all five games of the tournament being held in New Zealand, but her team were beaten 2-1 by North Korea at Christchurch last Thursday.
The only other side to beat them was South Korea in the group stages but, with victories over Brazil and Nigeria, they progressed to the quarter-finals as group runners-up before knocking out Japan in a penalty shoot-out following a 2-2 draw.
On Sunday they meet Germany in Auckland in a play-off for third place.
Naomi, 17, is a first year student studying for a National Diploma in Sport as part of the college's football development scheme.
The former Goole Town defender who now plays for Doncaster Belles was selected for the squad earlier this year after taking part in an intensive training programme at the FA's Bisham Abbey Centre.
