BUMPER attractions drew crowds in their thousands to this year's fun-filled Sherburn Gala.
Attractions including a psychic fair, Punch and Judy show, motorbike trials, family dog show, tug-o-war, wheelbarrow in bloom and bonny baby contests, children's disco and even maggot racing made for an action-packed event at Eversley Park on Saturday.

Gala committee chairman Alma Hodgson said: "It was a wonderful day – dry with a good turnout, and everyone enjoyedy themselves."

The celebrations started with a parade of decorated themed floats through the village – led by gala queen Jodie Smith and marshaled for the first time by firm Morgan Est – before mascots from Rugby League side Castleford Tigers performed the official opening.

Visitors also enjoyed performances by the Normanton Nightingales, Crofton Star Lightning Majorettes and the 2434 Air Training Cadets Drum Band, while a display of artist's impressions from the village renaissance town team received positive feedback from interested residents.

Alma added: "The Tigers mascot went down a storm with the children, and the return of the family dog show in particular was a great success.
"A huge thank you must go to Morgan Est and Bishops Move, entertainment manager Steve Wright, gala committee members and everyone else who helped out on the day."

A collection brought in £355.11 for the gala fund.
