HAVING just read John Grogan's recent opinion piece in the Yorkshire Post, one has to ask is this man for real?
He supports the creation of an 'eco-village' that would be larger than Selby, to be built on greenbelt land liable to flooding and over mine workings. How on earth can a development of that size be regarded as a village, and who in their right mind w
ould sanction building in such an area?
He states the development would encourage walking, with residents less reliant on private transport. Could he enlighten us on where we're to walk when our green fields have been concreted over, and since the proposed 150,000 jobs are likely to be in Leeds or possibly York, how are we expected to get to work?
For most people, public transport is just not practicable, and I believe it has already been stated there would be no upgrade to the roads or to the motorway junction, so yet more clogged-up roads – is this eco-friendly?
I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting details of the online poll Mr Grogan refers to. I wasn't aware of it, and in view of other polls that indicated 96 per cent of residents in the closely affected villages are opposed to the development, one has to ask who was involved in the poll he refers to. Perhaps there were only three respondents – one resident against, and Mr Grogan and Mr Poskitt of GMI for the proposal!
I thought our members of Parliament were elected with a mandate to represent the views of all their constituents – not just a handful.
Represent your constituents, Mr Grogan, by supporting development of brownfield sites and bringing back into use some of the 675,000 homes currently empty.
